A man has been sentenced after he failed to pay fines he was ordered to pay for not properly clearing up waste on two separate occasions.

According to Oldham Council, Marius State, of Fulham Street, did not pay the fines after he had twice failed to clean up rubbish he was responsible for.

The council took State, 34, to court and he was ordered to pay a total of £843 for his actions.

He becomes the latest amongst 435 people who have been made to pay fines for environmental crimes in Oldham over the last 12 years since the start of the Don't Trash Oldham campaign.

Leader of Oldham Council Amanda Chadderton said this week that over the last 12 months, more than 381 penalty notices have been issued and 44 people have been prosecuted for dumping their rubbish in the borough.

The fines and associated costs have totalled at £26,000.
