Footage is circulating on social media showing Oldham Athletic and Wrexham fans fighting each other and throwing objects such as bricks through the streets of Failsworth ahead of the match yesterday.

Residents and members of the public caught 'hooligan' fans on camera fighting one another in residential streets, with their behaviour condemned by MP Angela Rayner.

The mass fight took place ahead of the Oldham Athletic vs Wrexham match yesterday (Saturday, October 1) which saw Wrexham - owned by Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - ultimately beat the Latics 2-1.

But footage hours before the game shows fans from both sides were throwing bricks, wheelie bins and punches and kicks at each other.

Riot police were also captured on camera attempting to control the situation.

In one video, a bus is held up by the commotion as a large group of men attacked each other in the middle of the road.

The same video seemed to show bricks and other debris lying in the road.

Another video seemed to show a man being punched to the floor while police ran over.

Failsworth and Ashton MP, Angela Rayner, shared her disgust of the incident on social media.

The Labour deputy leader said on Twitter: “Disgusted to see the brawl in the streets this afternoon in Failsworth before today’s match.

“This was the middle of the afternoon in a residential area where kids play.

“Thank you to GMP who were on scene to protect the public.”

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
