Oldham Community Radio has been nominated for a national award for one of its programmes.

The station has been nominated as a finalist in the 2022 Community Radio Association Awards in the Covid and Community Rebuild category.

The Tommyfield Live programme, which airs on a Saturday, is up against four others in the category.

Held at Kings House in Bedford, the awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 19, when the station may be announced as the winner.

The awards ceremony recognises the work that community radio does in local communities by entertaining, informing, and engaging listeners.

These kinds of station are often run by a small team of staff and involve volunteers.

In March, Oldham Community Radio celebrated its 15th anniversary and has been awarded a further five years by regulator Ofcom.

Although the station continues to enjoy success, as shown by this nomination, it faces an uncertain future over where it will be broadcasting from.

The station is currently based in Tommyfield Market, which is set to be knocked down with traders to be moved into the new redeveloped Spindles Shopping Centre, and it is currently waiting to learn where it will be based.

Ian Wolstenholme, director at the station, previously said: "We hope there may be an opportunity to join the market hall traders in the proposed centre."
