A kind-hearted group of family and friends have held a fundraising "games marathon" in memory of a man who died four years ago after suffering with pancreatic cancer.

The event was organised in tribute to Anthony Holden, from Diggle, died aged 52 in 2018.

Mr Holden’s nephew, Stephen Hewitt, and two of Anthony’s friends, Scott Longley and Diggle band club committee member Andy Redfern, led the entertainment.

The "marathon" included pool, darts and cribbage and was staged at Diggle Band Club at Bankfield House on Huddersfield Road.

On the day, their enthusiastic efforts amassed £700 which was match funded by the Dernly brothers of Fan Dynamics LImited, boosting the total to £1,400 for charity, to help others who suffer with pancreatic cancer.

Mr Hewitt said: “Anthony was born in Diggle and was very popular with everyone.

"His death in 2018 was a real shock.

“The marathon included all age groups and special thanks to Sarah Barlow of Pogson and Armitage for passing the funds on too.”
