Oldham’s Christmas lights were lit up in style outside the Old Town Hall on Saturday.

The festivities were free to attend, and included a Christmas show called The Night the Frost Fell, performed by Oldham Theatre Workshop.

For those who missed the special performance, the play – which is set in a town living in the shadow of a curse from Jack Frost, is set to be performed at Oldham Library throughout December right up to Christmas Eve.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

The lights switch on culminated in a firework finale, just two weeks after Oldham’s Big Bang Bonfire saw the borough celebrate Guy Fawkes night.

Council leader, Cllr Amanda Chadderton, said: “It was fantastic to see so many residents out with their friends and family enjoying our Christmas Lights Switch-On event.

“We know the current climate is far from ideal at the moment and many people are struggling, so it was heart-warming to see so many smiling faces and people having a great time at our event.

“We have much more to come in the run-up to Christmas, so I encourage everyone to check out our Christmas in Oldham campaign for more information about the free events we’re putting on for families this year.”
