An Oldham sports group has celebrated its sixth year in a grand celebration event.

Outta Skool, which serves Oldham and surrounding areas of Greater Manchester, hosts a variety of sports and summer clubs at a low cost.

The social enterprise runs clubs including boxing, taekwondo, football, muay Thai, and kabaddi.

Recently, the Horizon LGA Taekwondo club celebrated winning the first-place trophy at the National Championships 2022 declaring that they are the number one club in the country.

The Kabaddi Club, Manchester Raiders, also had their share of success as they played in the British Kabaddi League, the season was televised live on the BBC.

The awards ceremony brought over 250 people together to celebrate the achievements of young people – including Oldham Council deputy leader Cllr Abdul Jabbar MBE, Manchester City Council deputy leader Cllr Luthfur Rahman OBE, Cllr Shaid Mushtaq, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Muzahid Khan, and mountaineer Akke Rahman.

Moinul Islam MBE, founder of Outta Skool, said: “Too often I get invited to celebrate achievements of adults and rarely young people are celebrated so we’ve taken the initiative for the young people we work with.

“We’re always delighted and proud with the achievement of our clubs no matter how big or small, however, this year has been exceptional for all our athletes with accolades we didn’t even imagine we could achieve.

“Our intentions behind the awards ceremony have always been to recognise the hard work, efforts and literal blood and sweat the young people and our staff put in day in, day out between all the clubs."

He added: “We also hope that they get inspired when they see the diversity in the room and work even harder next year.

“Credit goes to the sheer determination of our coaches for their adaptability, passion and commitment for our children.

“We want to congratulate all the award recipients and all the parents for their hard work, commitment and continued support.

“We want to thank The National Lottery Community Fund for their contribution to the event, Action Together Oldham for the funding to celebrate all our volunteers.

“Thank you to Kick Sonic for funding the football trophies this year. Outta Skool was set up to create opportunities and remove barriers to participation.

“We are making a huge difference in the lives of over 130 young people every week.

“By removing the biggest barrier to participation, which is cost, we are the cheapest clubs in the country with sessions costing between £1 to £2 across all our Clubs. We are sheer quality without the huge price tag.”
