A teenage boy had his bike snatched from him in a cruel robbery, just a week before Christmas, in an Oldham park.

On Saturday, December 17, at approximately 4.20pm the 13-year-old's bike was taken from him at the entrance of Waterhead Park by two older teens wearing balaclavas.

Mum, Kim Williams, said the pair threatened her son that they would "hurt him" if he didn't hand over his blue specialised Rockhopper bike.

The teenager had only had the bike for a year as his previous bike, bought 18 months ago, was damaged when he was hit by a car in Derker.

Ms Williams said: "Now this one has been stolen.

"It was a £600 bike - me and his dad both work hard to give our son nice things and don't expect some horrible teens to scare him the way he was.

"It makes us feel as parents like we can't give him nice things as it makes him a target in this day and age, which is awful."

The teen was quick to call the police with a description of the thieves and his parents said officers ramped up patrols in the area after it happened.

The mum said she is glad her son is alright but that the incident has rocked him and the family.

She added: "He hasn't been out since and he has no bike now, which was his pride and joy."

In the description, the mum said her son thought the pair were older than him, around 16 years old, and had come through the park from Sharples Hall Street "straight over" to him.

He also said the two teenagers were both wearing black coats while one had black trousers, the other had grey trousers and a Nike backpack.

Between them, they already had a bike which was grey with green writing.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the theft had been reported to the force.

A spokesperson said: "No arrests have been made at this time but an investigation is still ongoing."
