A schedule of events taking place across the borough in the coming months as part of the live@thelibrary season has been released.

Residents can attend events involving comedy, drama, new writing, family theatre and storytelling in the borough between January and April.

On January 26, Dr Tony Redmond will be talking about his book 'Frontline: Saving Lives in War, Disaster and Disease'.

Speaking at Oldham Library, Dr Redmond, who grew up in Failsworth, will be discussing his long and illustrious career as an A&E doctor has seen him on the frontline of countless international emergencies.

February will see the return of the popular, and free, Illuminate festival, which is being held for the sixth time on Saturday, February 18, and will light up the town centre.

February is also LGBTQ+ History Month and the council has teamed up with Oldham Pride Committee for a special screening of the comedy Kinky Boots, which follows the tale of a failing footwear factory.

On International Women's Day on March 8, local author Karol Darnell will be talking about her new book, Don’t Miss the Last Train Home, which is based in Failsworth in the early 1900s.

Then on April 26, the Forget About the Dog Theatre will be presenting the sci-fi themed Happy Place play, which follows four individuals on an journey in a comedic and critically-acclaimed production.

Cllr Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: "The winter months are always dark and cold so we’ve put together a fun, interesting and informative programme of events, to help keep residents entertained.

"There is a little bit of something for all ages.

"I’d urge people to check the listings, book their places and get involved."
