A hair salon and beauty salon in Saddleworth has announced it has closed as its owner is entering a new career.

Dolly Birds, situated on High Street, closed "for the final time" on Friday, January 6, after operating for more than eight years in Uppermill.

The hair salon and beauty bar revealed in a post on social media that its owner, Shelley, is starting a new career with Greater Manchester Police.

The post read: "The next chapter has begun, new year and new career.

"As I close the door on Dolly Birds, it opens on into GMP where I start my new career."

Shelley extended her thanks to all of her clients and their "continued loyalty to the end" who have been through her salon doors over the years.

She said: "Many started as strangers but have become the bestest of friends.

"We have been through a very turbulent journey of life, marriages, babies, loss of loved ones and many more.

"We’ve shed tears of sadness and joy, belly laughed and extreme hangovers.

"I’ve learnt so much from you all, this has been so much more than just a job - it’s been a friendship."

The owner added: "It’s finally hitting home that it’s over and I’m going to miss our fortnightly catch-ups."

The announcement comes as the salon said it had "the worst year for cancellations" in 2022.
