A bank in Oldham has been supporting local families with money managing advice and tips for children to promote financial independence and boost confidence with money.

Families across the borough have been invited to the NatWest Oldham branch on Yorkshire Street to learn about managing their finances amid the tough year ahead - and how they can teach their children the skills they need to be confident with money and budgeting.

While youngsters enjoyed "colouring in fun" at the branch, their parents found out about how to use the NatWest Rooster Money which aims to help parents, carers and children have positive conversations about money.

Nella Piroskova, age seven, and Michaela Minarikova, age three, took part in the activity which is running across the North West and took home a tote bag and colouring pencils as a reward for their efforts.

Carol Wilkinson, manager at NatWest Oldham, said: "It's been fantastic to welcome families into the store to learn more about managing their money at a time when, even without the cost-of-living crisis, people can often feel overwhelmed y money matters or be planning to start the new year with a fresh look at their finances."

Ms Wilkinson explained how the NatWest Rooster Money app and prepaid debit card, aimed at children aged three and up, can support families to build money confidence in youngsters such as earning, saving and spending with a view to prepare them for financial independence.

The Rooster Card is only available for children aged six to 17 but allows parents to set up restrictions on how and where the card can be used while receiving real-time notifications on their children's spending.

Ms Wilkinson added: “It’s been great for the branch team too as it’s really rewarding to know we’re teaching valuable life skills, with a bit of creativity and fun along the way.”
