A Turkish restaurant in Royton has announced it will temporarily close to make way for a brand new Spanish-inspired menu and name change this week.

Istanbul Grill on Heyside has served people in the borough and beyond with a range of "premier and authentic" Turkish dishes, such as Meze and grilled meats, since 2019.

The restaurant also hosts live belly dancing entertainment every Saturday.

However, as of Monday (January 23), Istanbul Grill said it will close and reopen on Wednesday as a brand-new Spanish restaurant.

In line with its new and expansive Mediterranean menu, which will see it offer dozens of traditional Spanish dishes, Istanbul Grill is changing its name to La Salsa and promises to deliver "a taste of tapas in Royton".

In a public announcement online, the restaurant said: "Our new menu will allow you to order as much as you would like, as many times as you would like, for one set price per person.

"There are over 40 dishes for you to try out and choose from so there's something for everyone."

But the announcement was met with mixed reactions from residents with some mourning the loss of "the best Turkish cuisine around".

"Why though? If it ain't broke, don't fix it", another comment read.

But many were also pleased to hear about the change.

A woman wrote: "I love tapas. It's much needed around here" while another added: "I can't wait".

The restaurant has been approached for comment.
