An award-winning Edinburgh Fringe show which gives each audience member five free drinks is coming to Oldham for one night only.

The ‘Thinking Drinkers Pub Quiz’ presents a cabaret-style quiz in which audience members compete for prizes.

The show is set to come to Oldham’s Coliseum Theatre on Saturday, March 11 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available for £17 on the Coliseum’s website.

The show is part of a tour across the UK this Spring to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Thinking Drinkers’ entertainingly educational on-stage partnership.

An interactive combination of show and quiz, in which the whole audience participate, each round of the quiz is inspired by, and accompanied with, one of five drinks that experts Ben and Tom have specially selected for its premium quality, distinctive flavour and remarkable history – these include a sipping Venezuelan rum, an American whiskey, an artisan gin and a German Pilsner.

Ben McFarland has been named Beer Writer of The Year by the British Guild of Beer Writers three times. As well as authoring numerous award-winning books on beer, he spent seven years as the pub and bar reviewer for Time Out London and was also a sports journalist for The Guardian.

Tom Sandham is an IWSC Spirits Communicator of the Year and author of the Gourmand Award-winning book World’s Best Cocktails. A former editor of cocktail magazine CLASS, he launched World’s 50 Best Bars and the Soho House drinks magazine, House Tonic, and was also a sports journalist for Sky.

Ben and Tom first collaborated in 2006 when they wrote Good Beer Guide West Coast USA – an award-winning travel guide and craft beer lover’s compendium of the world’s most cutting-edge brewing scene.

Other books followed including World’s Best Beers, World’s Best Cocktails, Boutique Beer and Thinking Drinkers: The Enlightened Imbiber’s Guide to Alcohol.

Their latest book, The Thinking Drinkers Almanac, was named Drinks Book Of The Year 2021 by The Times and The Sunday Times.

In 2011 they transferred their expertise and unique take on alcohol from the editorial page to the comedy stage with their first critically acclaimed show The Thinking Drinker’s Guide to Alcohol.

The show transferred to London’s iconic Soho Theatre and since then they have regularly toured the UK, which lead to them being named Industry Communicators of the Year by Imbibe Magazine in 2018.

Having recently sold the rights to Warner Brothers in Germany, the duo are in discussions to take the show to America.
