A popular Oldham pub which has been running for more than a decade bid its "final farewell" last night and closed for good after spiralling costs became unmanageable.

Earlier this year, the Coach and Horses Pub on Huddersfield Road in Waterhead announced it was closing its doors for good on Friday, March 31.

It cited "unsustainable costs and dwindling numbers" as the reason behind the shock closure with many residents and its regulars describing it as the "end of an era".

In a post online, the pub said it had an "exciting journey" over the past 13 "beautiful" years as the owners said they have met "some incredible people".

It read: "We have been lucky to be a part of all your special moments as you celebrated with us."

The owner, Lesley, further extended her thanks to the company, Plastics Direct, who "went above and beyond" during the pub's refurbishment.

"They were so generous by replacing the roof of our smoke shelter and donating a new splashback behind the bar and then going above and beyond by sponsoring our football team."

Lesley added: "I would like to thank my amazing staff who have continued to support us up until the last day. You are amazing."

On the night itself, Lesley said she was expecting an "emotional" evening and decided to put on a karaoke event, "so we can sing out until the end".

Reflecting on the closure, she said it was "the best send off we could have wished for".

"We did Waterhead proud tonight and danced until almost dawn.

"It was a night filled with cuddles and love. Bless you all", she added.
