The latest corporate report by HM Revenue and Customs lists several Oldham businesses and individuals who have been caught filing incorrect tax reports.

HMRC regularly publishes details of deliberate tax defaulters concerning people who have received penalties for either deliberately filing errors in their tax returns or deliberately failing to comply with their tax obligations.

In the latest March 2023 list, BQD Ltd, a restaurant and takeaway on Union Street, formerly trading as BBQD, was mentioned.

The takeaway received a £31,797.06 penalty charge after £50,471.54 amount of tax or duty was called into question between February 2018 to January 2020.

The director, Hafiz Muhammed Rizwan, was also disqualified by the Insolvency Service for six years in March this year after he failed to explain whether a series of funds were for the "genuine business income of BBQD".

Next up on the list is Alexander James Robin Done of Marland Avenue in Oldham.

The subcontractor has been issued a penalty of £18,645.46 after a total of £28,796.10 of tax/duty went unaccounted for between April 2017 and April 2021.

The March list also shows a barrister from Oldham has been slapped with a hefty fine.

Robert Michael Kearney of Friezland Lane in Greenfield received a penalty of £15,936.23 based on a sum of £35,024.70 in unpaid taxes/duty between April 2019 and April 2020.

Finally, another takeaway, Erin's Express Ltd on Ashton Road, trading as Erin's Express Italian Food, was named and shamed on the list.

The takeaway was hit with a £20,473.34 penalty based on a sum of £55,709.77 in unaccounted tax/duty between August 2017 and July 2021.

A prior list in July 2022 further reveals James Richard Simpson, a scaffolder from Hazel Grove, Chadderton, was fined £36,333.43 based on £53,235.80 of unpaid tax/duty.
