Polls closed at 10pm last night with the count set to begin at around 10am this morning, we will then bring you live results as we get them.

There has been some controversy around the new rules that voters must provide photographic identification in order to vote this year.

Campaigners have said that many voters have been turned away as they did not have photo ID.

Tom Brake of Unlock Democracy, who is leading a coalition of groups including the Electoral Reform Society, Fair Vote UK and open Britain against the imposition of voter ID, said: "Today has been a dark day for British democracy."
