A voluntary rescue service in Oldham has thanked a group of walkers for their dedication in raising thousands for the team.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, which relies on donations, has celebrated the Saddleworth Tuesday Walkers club for raising thousands of pounds in its almost three-decade-long history.

Starting in 1994 by Bob Tait, two groups have consistently met every Tuesday for walks around the local area and have gone on to raise £16,000 for the Oldham rescue team.

On a visit over the weekend, the walkers went to the rescue team's headquarters in Greenfield where they enjoyed a tour of the base and look at the vehicles and rescue equipment.

The tour was then completed with a short history about the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.

In a post on social media, OMRT said their "ongoing support is greatly appreciated" as the funds "help the Team provide assistance to the many people who find themselves in the unfortunate position of needing help".
