A rising star boxer from Oldham who bagged win after win last year is set to fight again.

The steaks will be high for Leyton Collymore who won five of his six professional fights in 2022 as he goes head-to-head again in his first fight of the year this month.

The 26-year-old from Lees spent more than five years honing his boxing skills after a successful 10-year career in Muay Thai.

He had won multiple titles in Muay Thai and was ranked third in the UK and internationally before he decided to pick up his boxing gloves and pursue the sport professionally.

In December last year, Leyton embarked on a "new chapter" training under a new head coach, Anthony Farnell, an ex-professional champion boxer, in Arnie's Gym in Failsworth.

Prior to Farnell's guidance, Leyton was coached by his dad, John Carr, who was a professional footballer.

The move happened before he faced off against Bahadur Karami in his last fight of 2022 in his hometown at Oldham Leisure Centre where the ref gave the verdict of a draw.

Then in January this year, he signed a deal with a new manager, Pat Barett, who works for the prestigious Manchester-based professional boxing promoting company, Black Flash Promotions.

Leyton's mum, Angela Collymore, said Leyton is "so happy" now that Pat is on board with him.

"Pat has been brilliant in supporting Leyton, in and out of the ring.

"He's fit right in with his teammates at the new gym and is learning more things every day - he's going from strength to strength.

"Arnie has also been so supportive and encouraging Leyton in his career and said Leyton has a big, bright future ahead.

"He would like to say a big thank you to Pat and Arnie for everything, and also to family, friends and sponsors for all the support.

"This year is going to be a big exciting year so everyone needs to stay tuned", she added.

His next and seventh fight overall is due to take place at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Stretford, Manchester, on Saturday, May 27.

Leyton is expected to fight another six rounds in the middleweight category.

Alongside Leyton on the 'Manchester Calling' fight card is Artjom Kasparian, Pete Naylor, "Super" Mario Silva, Connor Ward, Ezra Arenyeka, Hurricane Hannah, Josh Kaighin, Bahador Karami, Garth Ward and Niall Brown.

Black Flash Promotions said it has assembled an "unbelievable show" with "some of the finest prospects in the country".

"This is a night not to be missed so come and enjoy.

"It's going to be tremendous."

Tickets to the event are still up for grabs, starting from £40 for a standard seat, £70 ringside or £120 for a ringside table which includes food and waiting service.
