The landlady of a popular pub in Oldham town centre is set to shave off all her hair on a fundraising day for charity after a staff member fell ill with a rare condition.

The Bees Knees pub on Fairbottom Street has announced it will be hosting a major charity fun day with a hefty line-up of games and entertainment on Sunday, May 28.

While there will be DJs, karaoke, performances from the Oldham singers, Sam Hewitt and Niall Barnes, as well as an Elvis Tribute act and a guest appearance from the Latics' mascot, Chaddy the Owl, landlady Emma Keylock said she will also be shaving her entire head.

All the proceeds of the event will go towards the charity, GAIN, after a beloved colleague, Christopher Stott, fell seriously ill earlier this year with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Emma, who has been at the helm of the pub for three and a half years, said: "I'm obviously nervous.

"My hair is my identity, but it's worth it to raise money for the charity which supports the condition that my staff member Christopher has.

"His illness has had a massive impact on us as a community pub - he is part of our main team."

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a very rare and serious condition that affects the nerves.

Christopher has been in intensive care since his devastating diagnosis and Emma said staff are missing him "so much".

"So we are doing this day for him.

"He loves live music, he loves having a laugh - he is literally the pub's light.

"I want this day to be a massive success for us and the charity", she added.

With the help of her assistant manager, Becky Kirkpatrick, and all the team at Bees Knees, the fundraising day will be jam-packed with activity all day long.

Those attending can participate in a raffle with amazing prizes up for grabs as well a number of tournaments such as "killer pool".

Meanwhile, there will also be body glitter stalls, a tombola for children and sponge stocks with food being served all day.

"I am really looking forward to the day", Emma added.
