A borough Post Office branch is set to close for close to three weeks in the summer.

Butler Green Post Office in Chadderton will be shut from Thursday, July 6 at 5.30pm until Tuesday, July 25 at 1pm for a refurbishment.

Following the refurbishment, the branch will become a "new-style local Post Office" with an open-plan counter and retail counter, according to the organisation's plans.

It is part of an effort to make the location a "modern retail environment".

As well as mail, Post Offices can be used to access bank accounts for 99 per cent of UK bank customers, with withdrawals and deposits possible.

Most services will remain the same, however the branch will no longer take Parcelforce Worldwide International parcels.

The Butler Green Post Office currently has an average 1.6 out of 5 rating on Google Maps, from 14 reviews.

Reviewers note the store’s "shameful presentation" and have criticised the shop for being "unprofessional", with some saying the shop does not stick to its advertised opening hours.

However, others praised the "nice and friendly staff" and "excellent services".

A new postmaster is also set to take a role at the Chadderton branch.

The opening hours will stay the same, from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm, and Saturday from 9am to 12.30pm.

The news comes as a Moorside Post Office is set to reopen after 18 months of closure.

The Post Office has recommended that alternative branches are used during the closure, with Oxford Street Post Office, Hollins Road Post Office, and Lee Street Post Office remaining open for business.
