A woman allegedly went into labour after a rock was thrown through a bus window when she was travelling through Oldham.

On Saturday, May 27, there were reports of a large police presence on Hillside Close in the Sholver and Moorside area of Oldham.

In recent weeks, neighbours have complained about the high prevalence of crime and anti-social behaviour on the seemingly quiet cul-de-sac.

However, it seems on this occasion residents banded together to come to the aid of a heavily pregnant woman and her children after they were 'shocked' by an incident on a bus.

According to resident, David Sansome, a brick had been thrown through a bus window on Sholver Lane, shattering the glass and "showering" the passengers with the fragments.

He added: "I heard a lot of shouting so I went to look and I saw all the passengers stood on the pavement, along with the driver of the bus.

"One of the passengers was heavily pregnant and she was crying as her little kids were on the bus."

David and another neighbour then said they took the woman and her children into their homes on Hillside Close after they thought her waters had broken due to being in shock.

He continued: "We made her comfortable while waiting for the police and the ambulance to arrive.

"Her children were taken in by a neighbour.

"That's why police were on Hillside Close - nothing to do with any anti-social behaviour."

Another neighbour on the street, who asked to remain anonymous, said they heard the sirens around teatime and had heard about a brick being thrown through a bus window, "hitting a woman and her children".

Photographs of the scene show two police cars were in attendance and had their blue lights on.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers attended Hillside Close at approximately 8pm on Saturday.

A spokesperson said: "A man had thrown a rock at a bus window which has subsequently broken.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"No injuries were reported and we have no notes on the pregnant woman, bar the North West Ambulance Service were called out", they added.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) further confirmed it was called to a private address on Hillside Close at 7.15pm.

However, NWAS said it did not take any patients to the hospital after attending the incident.
