An Oldham taxi driver who was caught with a sex worker in his car has been sentenced after a video of the incident went viral online.

Mohammed Jamal, 37, of Refuge Street, Shaw, appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court today (Wednesday) after pleading guilty to soliciting another for the purpose of obtaining their sexual services as a prostitute in a street/public place, namely Thames Street in Rochdale.

The 37-year-old was caught on camera with an adult woman in a taxi on Thames Street, Rochdale, in the early hours of Sunday, April 9.

He was charged with soliciting after mobile phone footage of an Uber driver circulated widely on social media which appeared to show a man with his trousers down in the back of a taxi.

In a post on social media at the time, Uber said: "We are currently investigating and are ready to work with the police with any investigation."

Greater Manchester Police encouraged members of the public to "refrain from engaging in conversations online" and remove the video for the purpose of a fair trial.

At a hearing at Tameside Magistrates' Court today Jamal was fined £80, ordered to pay £85 costs, and a £32 victim surcharge.
