A Chadderton school has received the highest possible Ofsted rating following a recent inspection.

Corpus Christi RC Primary School, on Stanley Road, received the rating of 'outstanding' in a report published yesterday.

The school was inspected in March and maintained its top score which it first received in 2015.

In the report, lead inspector Claire Cropper said that Corpus Christi "continues to be an outstanding school", with pupils growing in confidence and flourishing.

Pupils were commended for their "impeccable behaviour" with "extremely positive attitudes to learning" leading to no wasted time in lessons.

The school was praised for its "wide range of activities" which learners were keen to take part in, leading to students developing independence and motivation by the time they are ready to leave the school.

Children at Corpus Christi were said to feel safe and happy, with staff dealing with rare incidents of bullying "swiftly and thoroughly".

Inspector Claire Cropper said that while many children arrive in the early years with an insecure grasp of English, such as those who speak English as an additional language, pupils "develop a remarkable range and depth of knowledge" by the time they are in key stage two, or aged seven to eight.

The curriculum at the school was praised for being "highly ambitious" and enabling "all pupils to be successful".

Teachers were praised for checking that pupils understood what they had learned before moving on to new learning, with pupils said to have a rapid recall of previous learning.

Pupils at the school were said to enjoy reading, with dedicated reading times leading to older pupils understanding ‘complex vocabulary’ and a wide range of writing styles.

Pupils with special educational needs and disabilities weren’t left out – with leaders praised for identifying children in need of extra support, and those pupils said to learn ‘exceptionally’ due to this.

Safeguarding at the school was also praised, with vulnerable pupils benefiting from support, and pupils learning who to trust.

The next inspection at the school should take place in four years’ time, and the full report can be read on the Ofsted website.
