A renowned fundraiser and deputy head teacher from Oldham has reflected on his recent trip to Uganda as he checks on the charity's progress with the school.

Steve Hill MBE, the deputy head at St Joseph's RC Primary School in Shaw and founder of the Team Hill Charitable Trust, jetted off to Uganda at the end of May once again to see how his charity continues to help a local community.

It was Steve's fourth visit to the district of Masaka as the Team Hill Trust has been helping to build dormitories for the Jomain Midland Academy Nursery and Primary School as well as Eunice Medical Centre on Kalangala Island.

Ahead of his visit, the globetrotting charitable teacher was collecting old trainers, sports kits and stationery to give to the children and young people at the schools.

Reflecting on his stay this time, Steve said he had a "very special trip".

"It was great to spend two days on Kangala Island, visiting Dr James at Jomain Midland Academy, which is the school the Team Hill Charitable Trust is supporting by building new dormitories and classrooms.

"It was very special to see the most recent dormitory almost completed and ready for the boys to sleep safely in at night."

As well as overseeing the impressive progress at the school, Steve said his favourite memories of his trip were teaching lessons and playing football.

"Spending time with the children there was magical.

"My new name from the children is 'uncle Steve'!

"The highlight of my trip has to be the visit to the school where I was able to teach some lessons. It is something I won't ever forget.

"The children were amazing and so eager to learn. They then referred to me as their new teacher, Mr Steve.

"It really made me realise what a huge positive impact Team Hill is having for the communities in Masaka."

Steve also said he was on the lookout for the next project the charity can get involved with over there and already has some ideas and tricks up his sleeves moving forward.

While he is already planning his Uganda visit next year, he's also in the midst of training up for his mega 14 marathons challenge.

Steve will be running seven marathons across Costa Rica and then another seven along the Silk Road in Tajikistan - again, all for charity.

"Thanks to everyone for this support and encouragement so far - it always means a lot", he added.
