A YouTuber and competitive eater with millions of subscribers came to Oldham to take on a popular restaurant's French toast challenge.

The challenge, which takes place at the award-winning brunch restaurant, Diggle Lock on Huddersfield Road in Diggle, asks competitors to clear 3.5kg of French toast, stacked with an abundance of toppings, in just 30 minutes.

Those who manage to complete the challenge not only gain "legendary status" but a Diggle Lock goodie bag and an exclusive Diggle Lock 'winner's spoon'.

The meal itself is free for those who complete it while losers have to pay £30, though no one had managed to take home the winnings - until now.

Adam Moran, otherwise known as BeardMeatsFood to his 2.9 million YouTube subscribers, is a qualified personal trainer, competitive eater and the "13th best eater on planet earth" who hails from Leeds.

Admitting he had done very little research into the unbeatable challenge, he said he was drawn in by his sheer love of French toast.

Upon arrival, Adam was greeted by a warm reception at what he described as the "posh" venue before facing the almighty "brick" of French toast being baked.

Explaining the process, Jamie Collins, the owner of Diggle Lock and chef, said it is made up of an entire Pullmans loaf, sourced from Rogers Bakers in Marsden, that is then baked in a giant square tin.

It is then smothered in whipped mascarpone, macerated berries, maple, white chocolate and almond crumble.

Initially meant to be a 2.5kg 'brick', BeardMeatsFood was instead served with a monstrous portion of 3.5kg which was carried on a tray to his table.

"I didn't think it was going to be that big", Adam said, and although the weigh-in revealed the brick had gained a kilo, he wasn't phased by it.

"A little bit more French toast, there's nothing wrong with that is there?

"I think if anyone can eat three and a half kilos of French toast, it's me", he commented in the video.

Then tucking into the mammoth dish, Adam said he could barely contain his excitement as he loves French toast "more than I love my own granny - so much so that I'm not bothered that it came out 30 per cent bigger than it was supposed to", he joked.

As he wolfed down the toast at an impressive pace, he commented that the challenge was "the messiest one" he'd done since tackling a giant eclair and said the dish was "rich".

"Who doesn't like posh eggy bread?", he added.

The YouTuber then managed to complete the challenge in just 22 minutes to a round of applause from other diners.

"That was flippin' scrumptious", he said at the end of the video, which has already racked up almost 900,000 views in less than 24 hours.

Adam also showed off his winnings to viewers as he became the owner of a Diggle Lock tote bag and the first-ever Diggle Lock winner's spoon.

The restaurant, renowned for its breakfast and brunch menu, homemade cakes and "good-mood food" is now inviting residents to take on the challenge and attempt to beat the legend.
