A 'suspected firearms discharge' took place in Oldham town centre this week.

Greater Manchester Police has said the incident took place in the evening on Wednesday, July 5.

Residents reported seeing a police cordon on Henshaw Street and Horsedge Street yesterday afternoon (July 6).

A police spokesperson has now confirmed: “Greater Manchester Police are investigating a suspected firearms discharge on Henshaw Street and Horsedge Street in Oldham.

“It is believed to have happened on Wednesday evening (5 July 2023).

“There were no injuries and no arrests have been made at this time. Enquiries are currently ongoing.

“Anyone with information that can help officers with their enquires are asked to call 101 quoting incident 1177 of 06/07/2023.”

Yesterday, a North West Ambulance Service spokesperson told The Oldham Times that the service attended a call just after 2 pm on Thursday at a private address, with nobody taken to hospital.

NWAS has now confirmed this was unrelated to the suspected firearms incident.
