Oldham pet lovers are being called to consider adopting a 'golden oldie' pooch who is desperately searching for his forever home.

Skip, a 17-year-old Jack Russell, is currently staying with a foster family.

However, Dogs Trust Manchester is now appealing for dog lovers to consider providing Skip with his final forever home where he can live out the autumn of his years.

As an OAP (old age pooch), Skip enjoys the quiet life and home comforts - his favourite hobbies include pottering in fields, discovering new smells and snoozing on the sofa.

Skip does like to play with squeaky toys on the odd occasion and doesn't mind socialising with other dogs.

He could even live with another pooch, as he currently does in his foster home.

Lisa Eardley, centre manager at Dogs Trust Manchester, said: "Skip is a wonderful Jack Russell who is looking to enjoy his golden years in a loving forever home.

"He is happy to live with children over the age of 14, but they must understand that Skip is an older lad who is looking for a quiet life."

Lisa said Skip also loves to spend time with his "human friends" and doesn't like being left on his own.

Due to his age, Skip has separation anxiety which can only be managed rather than fixed, meaning he will need someone at home with him most of the time.

His forever family must also be happy to have Skip sleep upstairs with them and be understanding if he does have a toilet accident.

Meanwhile, his ideal home must have a closed garden for him to potter in.

Dogs Trust Manchester is calling on more people to offer a temporary home to dogs like Skip until they find their permanent home.

Not only does fostering mean the charity can support even more dogs, but it gives dogs waiting to find their forever family, like Skip, the chance to be cared for in a home environment.

Dogs Trust covers all the essential costs of fostering, including vet bills, food, bedding and toys, and is a great opportunity for dog lovers to care for a dog in their home without the long-term commitment that comes with owning a dog.
