A nursery in Oldham has been praised for being "impressive" and "passionate" in a recent report by education regulator Ofsted.

Broadway Day Nursery on Holden Fold Lane looks after youngsters from babies up to four years old.

While the provision was already graded "good" by the education watchdog, the setting was visited by inspector Shauneen Wainwright in May this year who had plenty of praise about the setting.

In her report, Ms Wainright said the children are "curious", "independent" and "fill the air with the sounds of laughter, thoughtful questions and excitement".

She said while older children "show off their extensive knowledge", younger two-year-olds "beam" and wait patiently when playing games.

In addition, babies "begin to showcase early imaginative skills" and have "impressive levels of confidence and comfort" when at Broadway Day Nursery.

When it came to the quality of education, Ms Wainright wrote the curriculum is "truly ambitious for every child".

She added: "Managers encourage staff to contribute their knowledge and training to the curriculum.

"This results in a well-thought-out, ambitious and successful curriculum for every child."

The inspector even said "some aspects" of the curriculum "go above in beyond", for example with the nursery's private speech and language support classes.

Story time is another highlight at the nursery as it successfully inspires a love of reading in all children and expands their vocabulary.

As a result, communication and language skills at the nursery are well supported.

Staff and leaders were also celebrated in the report for designing "clever activities" that support children's physical skills as the youngsters "cherish playing outdoors".

Rules and boundaries, which are gently enforced by adults, are further "happily" followed by the children which Ms Wainwright says creates an atmosphere of respect and kindness.

Meanwhile, staff quickly attend to babies' needs and "envelop babies in warm cuddles" when they wake from their nap.

Parents were also complimentary of the setting, with one telling the inpsector "every child deserves to smile and every child smiles here".

However, there is some room for improvement as Ms Wainwright found staff occasionally "do not use proper terminology when speaking for children", such as saying "ta" instead of "thank you", which the inspector said can be "confusing" for young learners.

The inspector also saw staff consuming unhealthy drinks in front of the children which she said undermines the lessons they are trying to teach about health and nutrition.

To hike up a grade, she said the nursery should encourage staff to deliver "consistent messages" about healthy choices and "use proper terminology" when speaking with children.
