A manhunt has been launched after a woman was sexually assaulted in an Oldham park by a stranger with a knife.

On Thursday, August 3 between 3.45am and 4am, a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted in Werneth Park by an unknown man.

The woman was alone when the stranger approached her.

It is believed the man was armed with a knife.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it is now appealing to witnesses and members of the public who may have been in the area around that time to come forward.

Detective Constable Young from GMP Oldham said: “This is obviously a very distressing incident and I’d like to reassure the public that we always take reports of this nature very seriously.

"We’re following a number of lines of enquiry but we’re urging anyone with information to please come forward and share it with us.

"We are providing the victim with updates and providing her with the support she needs."
