A pub in Failsworth which only recently opened its kitchen in a successful soft launch has rolled out its first menu - with not a microwave meal in sight.

The Mare and Foal pub on Ashton Road West officially opened its kitchen on Saturday, August 12 with a handful of selected items followed by a Sunday lunch the next day.

The pub said the taster session was "very well received" and gave staff inspiration to launch a brand new, "delicious" menu.

In a post online, bosses said the opening weekend "went really well" with the Sunday roast "a definite winner".

The post said: "Thanks to all our customers old and new that joined us this weekend.

"Well done to our chef, Liam, and his more than able assistant, Niki.

"Thanks to all our staff for getting the pub ready and running it so well."

Now, the pub has officially launched its first menu which has a range of small plates, main meal dishes, sides and a kids menu to choose from.

The pub also claims the food is completely freshly cooked and that "there isn't a microwave in the kitchen".

A sneak peek preview of the new menu shows small plates include dishes from nachos to 'messy chips' and mac and cheese, between £5.50 to £6, while mains consist of cheese burgers, tacos, steak, fish and chips and vegetarian or vegan tofu curry - all ranging in price from £7.50 up to £15.95.

In line with the pub's menu shakeup, The Mare and Foal has even acquired a grand piano for customers to come and "tickle the ivories and give us a tune".

The pub regularly hosts karaoke nights, pub quizzes and live entertainment which has proved popular with residents.

The friendly local also recently erected plaques on its walls in memory of two regular customers, "Stan the Man" and "Graham The Milk", in their "rightful place as part of the soul of the pub".

The new menu has already proved a hit with residents across Failsworth who have been quick to comment on their experience during the taster launch weekend.

Two people said the food is "amazing" and "lovely" while another woman said the mac and cheese in particular is "super duper".

Another added: "I agree, it was gorgeous."
