‘Tears and laughs’ have been promised with the presentation of a new one-man show in Oldham.
‘You’ll be old yourself one day’ by Failsworth's Dom Collins is set to explore aging through comedy.
Dom had worked as a postman in Manchester for 40 years, before deciding to pack it all in at 57 to become a comedian.
Now 67, Dom said: “While I was still working at Royal Mail I was doing all the folk clubs at night, trying to make a name for myself with my own style of writing and comedy.
“It just grew from there. When I got myself reasonably successful I decided to pack it in and turn professional.”

His latest play was written over lockdown when Dom said he had ‘nothing to do.’
He added: “All my work packed up, and everything else. I had nothing to do. I’ve always been writing stuff about what I know.
“First it was my son that was involved when I wrote a song called ‘will you lend me a tenner please, Dad?’ and then the grandkids came along and I’ve done stuff like ‘granddads don’t do nappies’ and about how it’s nice to have the grandkids round but it’s nicer when they go.
“There’s another one in it called ‘I’m spending your inheritance but I’m leaving you naff all’. It’s all that, I just write about life really, what I learn and what I know about life, and I try to put a comedy slant on it if I can.”

As well as comedic themes, the play is set to have a look at the impact of Alzheimer’s and old age.
Dom said: “I took every aspect of old age, I wrote down everything that I know to do with old age, 80 per cent of it is comedy but there’s a little bit of light and dark as well.
“I wrote a very strong song about Alzheimer’s, presented it to the Alzheimer’s Society and they made quite a few quid out of it, it’s called ‘It Wasn’t Meant to Be Like This’.
“There might be a couple of tears thrown in as well, but it’s not meant to be a really sad show, we’re going to leave them laughing and they will be laughing.”
‘You’ll be old yourself one day’ is set to perform from 8pm until 10pm on Friday, September 29 at the Woodhouses Cricket Club.
The play will have a short interval, and tickets cost £7.
