Places are now available to run the Oldham half marathon on behalf of a borough cancer charity.

Maggie’s Oldham has announced charity places are available for the 13.1 mile race that is fast approaching on Sunday October 29.

Runners will get a free Maggie’s running vest and/or t-shirt and free entry to allow them to raise funds for the charity which offers free, practical, and emotional support to people with cancer and their families.

Participants will begin with this year’s half marathon on St Mary's Way in the centre of Oldham, before taking a steady incline up to Grains Bar, where at a whopping 340 metres above sea level, the course reaches its infamous peak.

The route promises participants breathtaking views of the Saddleworth countryside as they make their way through Delph, Dobcross and Uppermill, before heading on to Grasscroft and Lydgate to begin their return leg.

With one last push through Lees and Glodwick, runners return up St Mary’s Way at the back of Tommyfield Market, where they will be greeted by applauding crowds as they cross the finish line and receive their well-deserved pumpkin-themed medals.

Sharon Richardson, a big supporter of the charity, said: “Maggie’s Oldham is a really special place to me. I’ve been fundraising for the centre in various ways even before it was officially open.

“I’m so thankful we have such a wonderful place here in Oldham and I’m always so grateful when I hear people I know have used the centre.

“Oldham half marathon is back now after four years. It’s a challenging half, but definitely one to tick off for runners. So I’m really happy to hear Oldham half are offering charity places for Maggie’s.”
