Oldham Council is looking to set up a ‘Friends of Gallery Oldham’ group.

According to the council, the group would be independent from Gallery Oldham, and work closely with the body to ‘promote the enjoyment of heritage and art in Oldham’.

Cllr Peter Dean, Cabinet member for communities and culture, said: “We know lots of residents really treasure what we do at Gallery Oldham, and many people have asked us how they could become more involved in our work.

“If you are interested in contributing to this group, and perhaps meeting like-minded people with an interest in arts and heritage, please do come along to one of these initial sessions.

“We’d love to hear your ideas for how this Friends Group might develop.”

Three ‘informal’ sessions will take place, for those who are interested in being involved.

The first such session will take place on Tuesday, September 26 at 6.30pm.

The second will be Saturday, October 7 at 2pm, and the third will be Wednesday, October 11 at 11am.

Each session will be the same, so there’s no need to attend more than one.

The sessions will take place at Gallery Oldham. While free, the council is asking those interested to book tickets through Eventbrite to gauge numbers.

Light refreshments will be provided at the events.

The ‘friends’ group, once set up, is set to receive ‘exclusive access to special events’ at the gallery.
