While police officers attended the scene and location immediately after the assault, they found no suspect.

Enquiries are currently ongoing and the force has released a photograph of a man who they would like to speak to as they believe he may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Inspector Stephen Griffin, from Greater Manchester Police's Transport Unit, said: "Both staff and passengers should be able to feel safe when working and travelling on public transport.

"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and we are working hard to investigate the reports we have received.

"If you were on the tram and have not yet spoken to an officer, I would ask you to please contact us with any information you may have."

Anyone with information that may help officers with their enquiries are asked to call 101 or 0161 856 6758 quoting incident 3052 of 22/09/2023.
