Spooky season is quickly approaching and Oldham is set to stage a hefty line-up of attractions and events in the town centre in the run-up to Halloween.

Kicking things off on Saturday, October 21, a two-week haunting Halloween Trail will be available for residents and visitors to bravely discover Oldham's most popular hot spots.

Uncover skeletons, Dracula and mummies along the route with a prize draw at the end of the trail to reward those who find what lurks around.

Then over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29, the town centre will transform into a nightmare as everything from gigantic spiders, a praying mantis and the gruesome Beastie and Minder will be lingering in the streets.

If you are vigilant enough, you may be able to spy an 'invisible man' - but approach him if you dare.

There will be lots of ghoulish activities over in Spindles too for the youngsters, with children's face painting and plenty of arts and crafts to get involved in.

The frightfully fun attractions come on the same weekend that we see the return of Oldham's newly renamed 'Oldham Halloween half', one of the UK's toughest half marathons.

More than 300 runners have already signed up to take part in the event organised by Oldham Community Leisure - but there's still time to sign-up before the race starts on Sunday, October 29.

Councillor Arooj Shah, leader of Oldham Council, said: “Halloween is an exciting tradition which many people, including our younger families, celebrate every year.

“That’s why we’ve worked to put together a ‘fang’tastic offer in our town centre for residents, shoppers and visitors to enjoy over this seasonal weekend.

“As you can see there’s plenty coming up over an exciting few weeks of Halloween fun.

“I’m especially looking forward to the return of Oldham’s half marathon event as it returns after more than three years away since the pandemic.

“The course is guaranteed to get the pulses racing of all those who compete and I wish everyone the very best of luck – it’s going to be a wonderful occasion for the borough, just like it was with the recent Tour of Britain.

“So make sure you come down over the weekend for a fantastic offer and have a great Halloween.”
