The full list of shops that have a licence to sell fireworks in Oldham has been revealed.

It follows a rise in complaints about the use of fireworks across the borough, with residents concerned that some shops may be selling the explosives without a licence.

People across Oldham, but particulary in Chadderton, have reported fireworks have become a constant "nuisance" that occurs "every night" and often past the legal time frame of 11pm.

Many pointed to blame wedding venues as the culprits flouting the rules.

While The Palm Suite denied permitting its guests to let off fireworks on safety grounds the venue was hit with a legal notice by the council.

The notice prohibits the venue from allowing fireworks on its premises at any time and could be faced with a fine or prosecution if it is found breaking the condition.

The Oldham Times asked Oldham Council for a list of licenced sellers in the area and was advised Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue (GMFRS) is the licensing authority with any such list.

A spokesperson for GMFRS explained that any business which has a licence to store fireworks can sell them in a strict time frame - between October 15 and November 10.

Licenced shops can also sell fireworks in the few days leading up to just three occasions - Diwali, New Year and Chinese New Year.

Businesses that wish to sell fireworks at any other time must obtain an additional licence.

The fire service said the current list of licenced sellers is subject to change as many shops file for applications ahead of Bonfire Night.

There is currently only one business in Oldham that is licenced to sell fireworks year-round -  Kaaboom Fireworks Ltd on Lees Road.
