Residents will come together to remember fallen heroes at a white poppy Remembrance Sunday event this weekend.
Saddleworth Peace Group’s White Poppy remembrance event will take place at the peace pole at 2pm on Sunday at St Chad's Gardens in Uppermill.
The white poppy was first produced in 1933 and stands for remembering all victims of all wars, as well as pushing for peace.
Katy Boulton, a member of the Saddleworth Peace Group, said, “It’s all about pushing our politicians to seek non-violent solutions to conflict. We have to challenge war.
“Every year there is something to remember but it must also be said that this is in no way a conflict with the red poppy.
"I wear both and will be attending events for both.”
The group will gather on Sunday to pay tribute through speeches, readings and reflections.
The event has been attended in the past by well known residents, including Oldham East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams, Peace Champion of the Parish Council, Barbara Beeley, as well as the Oldham mayor.
The group welcomes all who wish to attend and pay their respects.
This will be their third event of the year, after hosting events to remember the Holocaust, and the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in January and October respectively.
