A black pet rabbit that went missing from its home was rescued by police officers when it turned up at the station.

After community concerns grew for Coco the rabbit, the escaped pet seemingly handed himself in at Saddleworth Police Station.

In a post on social media, Greater Manchester Police said the rabbit was found in the car park of the station.

A photograph shows the rabbit was picked up and kept safe in the arms of a police officer.

Greater Manchester Police Saddleworth and Lees said: "Coco certainly gave police and residents the 'run rabbit run' around and his owner is now one happy bunny that Coco is back home and safe."

Residents have since been celebrating the good news with many commenting on the mischievous rabbit's stunt.

One woman wrote: "Stand down with the ladders, Thumper is safe."

Another said: "He has had a right adventure today."

Meanwhile, others described the story as "brilliant" and "wonderful" and shared relief that Coco is finally safe.

"Love a happy bunny story", read another comment.
