A car crash in Chadderton which reportedly left a car upside down and on its roof closed the road for "hours" this morning, Monday.

At approximately 8am, residents said there was a "big crash" on Hollinwood Avenue, near the Whitegate Inn Beefeater restaurant.

Witnesses said the incident shut the road for drivers approaching the lights on Broadway as emergency services attended to the incident.

A photograph taken at the scene shows one car had been flipped onto its roof.

Residents in the area said the road reopened again at around 11am but had described it as a "very bad accident" on social media.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed a crew had been called out to a crash involving two cars where one vehicle had overturned.

A spokesperson said: “At just before 8am this morning (Monday, December 11) one fire engine from Hollins fire station along with the technical response unit from Ashton-Under-Lyne fire station attended a crash involving two cars on Hollinwood Avenue, Chadderton, in which one vehicle had overturned.

"Firefighters assisted colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service in making the scene safe.

"Crews were in attendance for around one hour.”

Greater Manchester Police has also been approached for comment about the incident but said it hadn't received notification from the serious collision unit before this article was published.
