A driver has been arrested after he reportedly 'lost control' of his car on the M62 and a 19-year-old died. 

On Thursday, December 21, at around 10.30pm, emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving one car on the M62 near junction 21 in Milnrow.

A 19-year-old man, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital while a second passenger suffered no injuries. 

Police say the grey Vauxhall Astra was travelling westbound on the M62 near to junction 21 when the driver is believed to have lost control of the car and hit the central barriers.

The car then crossed over onto the eastbound carriageway and overturned.

The 19-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody for further questioning.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
