A handful of Amazon parcels that were found unopened and abandoned in a heap at the bottom of a street in Saddleworth were hand-delivered by a resident.

On Tuesday, (January 9), Dave Stell said he found several boxes and packages that were meant to be delivered by Amazon "dumped" at the bottom of Lodge Lane in Delph, at the back of some garages.

The parcels did find their way home though as Mr Stell delivered them to his neighbours across the village.

Those whose packages were abandoned said they had received a notification from Amazon on Monday (January 8) that the parcel had been successfully delivered and "handed to resident".

Residents were quick to praise Mr Stell's actions on social media, thanking him for his "honesty" and returning the parcels to their rightful owners.

One comment read: "Everyone needs a Dave. Well done, mate."

But Mr Stell said it was "no big deal to get the parcels to who they were for".

Meanwhile, others called the driver's failure to deliver the items a "disgrace" and "awful".

A woman wrote: "Oh my, what's wrong with these drivers?"

A man also joked that ditching parcels is "one way to say you quit" and another said she hopes "something is done about it".

Some were also concerned about the driver, asking: "Has anyone thought they could have been stolen from the van before blaming the driver?"

But one man, who claims to work as a delivery driver, said he doesn't understand why the parcels would have been left in that area.

He wrote: "I know the drivers hate delivering around Delph because it's so small and things are hard to find, but it makes no sense.

"I know it's very stressful delivering around Delph, especially when you have to make so many deliveries.

"I was delivering myself around Delph the other day and it's super, super stressful delivering in an LWB van."

A spokesperson for Amazon said: “We have very high standards for the delivery service providers we work with and how they serve customers.

"We are investigating the incident.”
