Oldhamers are set to see snowfall earlier than previously forecasted, next week.

Weather forecaster the Met Office predicts light snow to descend on the borough.

Its forecast for Sunday through to Monday read: "Rather cloudy with isolated showers on Sunday. Sunnier skies on Monday with an area of rain and snow potentially moving across the region overnight. Feeling cold with brisk coastal winds."

Meteorologists have estimated there to be a 60 percent chance that snow will fall from 9am till 12pm throughout Oldham and Saddleworth on Tuesday, as temperatures reach minus two degrees.

Residents should brace themselves for the cold weather as temperatures are expected to plummet to minus four degrees on Monday - when forecasters predict a high of just zero degrees at midday.

The Met Office's prediction for the remainder of today read: "A grey and cloudy day overall but some sunshine breaking through in the north. Staying dry for the vast majority with patchy drizzle mainly around higher ground. Light winds but feeling rather cold. Maximum temperature six degrees."

While it predicted "clearer spells briefly developing" in the north tonight, before more clouds arrive in the early hours of the morning - adding that "frost and freezing fog" is expected to form when skies clear.

Its meteorologist's prediction for Saturday read: "A mostly cloudy start to Saturday with a few outbreaks of rain. Skies brightening into the afternoon. Winds remaining light inland and still feeling cold. Maximum temperature six degrees."
