Police have announced they are looking for volunteers in Saddleworth and Lees to help crack down on speeding on three specific roads.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) shared on their Saddleworth and Lees Facebook page yesterday (January 18) that they are seeking residents to take part in their Community Speed Watch scheme.

It comes following residents' concerns regarding speeding in the areas.

Those who apply and become part of the Community Speed Watch scheme will receive training before assisting police officers to tackle the issue.

The specific roads GMP are looking to target are Denshaw Road in Delph, High Street in Uppermill and Greenacres Road/Durham Street in Lees.

GMP said those who take part will work with the Safer Transport Unit, Citizens in Policing team and local neighbourhood teams to "shape and develop a cohesive and effective community Speed Watch scheme whilst actively improving the lives of local communities and reducing the risk posed by speeding motorists".

Volunteers will be trained for the role and will also receive a uniform and equipment.

People can apply to take part in the scheme by clicking here.

According to GMP, the Community Speed Watch scheme aims to work in partnership with members of the community to target speed related offending.

The force added that the aim is not to catch as many speeders as possible but to reduce speeds in areas of concern.

Applications to take part in the scheme must be submitted by Wednesday, February 28.
