A boys’ school in Oldham has received a good Ofsted result in its latest inspection.

Darul Hadis Latifiah Northwest, located on Plum Street, was judged as ‘good’ by Ofsted inspectors in its most recent inspection.

The school, which charges pupils £3,000 per year, was inspected in November, with the full Ofsted report published last week.

In the report, authored by lead inspector Mavis Smith and inspector Alun Williams, the secondary school was classified as a ‘happy place for pupils to learn and play’, with ‘high expectations for pupils’ achievement’.

While most of the schools’ attributes, such as education quality, leadership, and personal development, were rated as ‘good’, pupils’ behaviour was singled out as ‘outstanding’ by inspectors.

Inspectors said: “Pupils enjoy striving for the enticing rewards for behaviour that the school provides, such as a trip to their favourite restaurant.

“Both in lessons and around school, pupils’ behaviour is exemplary.”

The school’s curriculum was praised as ‘ambitious’ and ‘well-organised’, though a small number of subjects were said to be at an early stage when it came to assessing the impact of the curriculum on pupils’ knowledge.

Throughout the school, pupils were said to ‘develop a love of reading’, with pupils who speak English as a second language supported to understand new vocabulary.

While the school’s policy is not to admit pupils with identified special educational needs, the school was said to work to identify pupils who might have special educational needs.

However, adaptations put in place as a result of these interventions were not always matched carefully enough to pupils’ needs – hampering their ability to access the curriculum, according to inspectors. Ofsted inspectors recommended that teachers receive additional training to overcome this.

Safeguarding at the school was also judged to be effective, according to the report.

Darul Hadis Latifiah Northwest currently has 88 pupils on its school roll, aged 11 to 16.

The school was contacted for comment.
