The signs are up, the lights are on and the doors are set to open at a highly anticipated Oldham chippy today.

Reel Fish and Chips, on Lees Road, unbolts the doors of the former Grouse Inn for the public at 4pm , and brothers Mudassir Ibrahim and Kazam Ali, founder of the brand, are excited to get going.

To celebrate the duo have brought out two additional burgers - a fillet-o-fish burger and a spicy dipped cod burger.

"We're really excited for this venture because we've teamed up with each other," Mudassir said.

"We're a traditional fish and chip shop but more importantly we offer quality fish and chips - something we've been doing for more than a decade in Bolton.

"On Wednesday, we had influencers come in and they really enjoyed the place and the food - and while they were here we also had people coming in off the street because they saw our sign was up and shutters too - so we served free food to as many people as we could, to say thank you."

The pair have pledged to donate "every penny" to the Al-Khair Foundation, a charity which offers aid and relief to those in need on both sides of the conflict in Gaza, and have set themselves a target of £20,000 to raise.

In Bolton, their branch feeds the homeless on a weekly basis and they plan to do the same for Oldham.

During the refurbishment, the brothers tried to preserve its external features as a nod to the former Grouse Inn.

The 42-year-old, who works as a full-time pharmacist, added: "We believe in sticking to what you know, we do everything a traditional chippy does but we want to present it in a more contemporary manner."

Inside, blue tiles adorn the walls and there are up to 20 seats for customers wanting to dine-in, while those in a hurry can also take it to go.
