Some students at Oldham Sixth Form College have been celebrating results following their GCSE resits.

Those who did not get the grades they needed were able to resit their exams in November, with results given out earlier this month.

Nationally, of those students sitting a GCSE resit in English Language, 40.3 per cent achieved a grade 4 or higher this year. However, students resitting at OSFC enjoyed a 61 per cent pass rate.

In Maths, 31 per cent of resit students at OSFC achieved a passing grade, compared to just 23 per cent nationwide.

It was a double celebration for Joshua Abrahams and his twin brother Jordan.

Joshua said: “The re-sit is a good chance for students who face similar situations as me to get another chance to redeem themselves again.

“I was lucky to find a college such as OSFC to provide an offer like this otherwise I would not be able to pursue my passion. Thank you OSFC for another chance.”

Student, Daniel Clarke, said: “Passing my GCSE English test has been such a relief for me, not only has it meant I have more free time but it has just made me extraordinarily happy.

“Some of my friends have also resit the test with me and they all passed, we were very much happy for each other - getting grade 4s and even 5s.

“Overall, I am very pleased with my results and it has given me the confidence boost I needed for future exams.”

Gail Ashurst, course leader for GCSE English said: “The GCSE English resit course provides an opportunity for our students to be successful and to grow in confidence in the subject, which will serve them well for the future.

“We are extremely proud of them all.”
