A longstanding Oldham newsagents that earns as much as £150,000 a year is up for sale.

After 21 years Bui News, Chadderton, has been placed on the market by agents at Sovereign Business Transfer for £245,950.

The owner Minh Bui told The Oldham Times that he is selling as he prepares to retire and the Whitegate Lane business comes as a package with the four bedroom property - where he and his family live upstairs.

"It's a nice area full of nice people, but I just want to retire and spend time with my family," the 63-year-old said.

"I enjoyed the job and speaking to customers and the local community - some know we're selling but it may come as a surprise to others.

"Maybe someone will take over it and keep it as a newsagents, but that's up to the new buyer - if they do I hope they deliver the service that we have to the community."

Mr Bui explained that his store makes "roughly £120,000 to £150,000 a year" and upon selling the property, he and his family hope to either move further into Oldham or to Manchester.

According to BusinessesForSale the store has a turnover of £234,000 a year.

The listing read: "Sovereign are pleased to offer a four-bedroomed commercial freehold property and newsagent in Chadderton, Greater Manchester area. The store stocks a wide selection of convenience items including: cigarettes, stationary, children’s toys and greetings cards.

"There is scope to increase sales by introducing and capitalizing on alcohol sales, expanding some of the retail lines currently stocked, pay point and introducing a fresh fruit and grocery section, confectionery and frozen foods. Lotto tickets and scratch cards could be introduced to increase the turnover.

"The deceptively spacious premises is an ideal investment opportunity for a speculator to acquire a profitable news agency coupled with living quarters for a family."

It continued: "This established newsagent offers a new owner a viable and already thriving business to market and take to the next level. Viewing comes highly recommended to entrepreneurs and investors."

The decision may come as a shock to customers like John Bruce, dubbed a 'local guide' on Google.

Mr Bruce left a recent review: "Local newsagent which delivers papers, happy days!"

While son Bao Bui also left a review on Google. He joked: "Really nice and friendly family run business. Oh, and the youngest son is good looking too."
