A new pub or bar which would specialise in craft ales may be coming to Delph sometime soon.

According to records on Companies House, a new private limited company called Delph Tap Ltd was incorporated as of Monday, February 5, this year.

The records reveal the company director, Lee Paul Donnelly, 46, hopes to operate the company as a pub or bar within Saddleworth Business Centre on Huddersfield Road.

It is believed the premises will take over the former coffeehouse and cafe, Toast, in the business centre.

A new entry on the Premises Licence Register shows Mr Donnelly has also applied for an alcohol licence and has outlined potential activities for the venue, including performances of live music, entertainment, late-night refreshments and playing recorded music.

The operating hours would be from Monday to Sunday, between 9am and 2.30am, though cut off times for live music and entertainment would be 11pm and the selling or refreshments and alcohol would cease as of 2am.

A public notice has caught the eye of Delph residents, many of whom are excited by the prospect of a new drinking venue in the village.

On social media, Mr Donnelly is encouraging residents with concerns to "please message me" and said he vows to be a "responsible business owner, working with the community and making sure people are correctly informed".

He said he has posted an "initial application" to assess the feasibility of such a venue but added: "If all goes well, the intention will be to proceed with plans for a nice, predominately craft ale tasting room at the old Toast site.

"We want to support brewers from the local area and beyond, as opposite to those more commercially available on a grand scale.

"Sorry, no Stella or general larger."

The director continued: "It is the intention to offer other drinks, as not everyone likes craft drinks, but we will definitely want to complement those already established in the village and provide a different type of chilled-out vibe and venue."

Residents wished the new director "good luck" with the plans and said it was "great news" for the village.

A resident said: "It would be an amazing addition to good old Delphshire" while another man added: "This sounds brilliant - just what is missing in Saddleworth at the minute."

Another supporter wrote: "It will be lovely to have a tap room within walking distance.

"I do hope the prices will be sensible and not over-inflated just because it's Saddleworth", she added.

While a woman added: "Sounds brilliant - we'll be there."
