Some residents in Oldham have vowed they will 'never' eat at Toby Carvery again after the restaurant brought in new car park rules this week.

According to residents in Chadderton, the Burnley Lane restaurant put up Europarks cameras covering its car park this week to enforce parking rules.

The carvery has confirmed the rule means customers must input their full vehicle registration details via a console in the restaurant, or face a £100 parking fine.

It means diners still get to use the car park for free while non-customers will receive a fine for pulling up.

However, the decision has caused a stir among residents with some finding the charges "fair" while others said "it's not right".

A man said residents often use the car park when watching Latics play at Boundary Park, adding: "Fair play when paying customers can't park up."

Oldham Athletic football fans are paying around £5 to park at the stadium to which one man said: "Why should Toby provide fan parking for nothing?"

"I don't blame them", replied another, "people would be complaining if they couldn't park to go in the restaurant.

"You can't win."

Another man agreed: "If they don't do this, then the car park is full on match day and customers can't park up and go elsewhere.

"That could lose them thousands of pounds a year in weekend profits... Smart business I think."

But an objector wrote: "I won't be going registering (my) number or to eat now.

"There are too many of these parking cameras everywhere.

"They see the motorist as easy prey for easy money.

"Cameras are popping up everywhere, it's not right."

A second person added: "A reason not to go."

A spokesperson for Toby Carvery confirmed it is a "guest-only car park".

Explaining the new rules which were introduced on Tuesday (February 13), the spokesperson added: "Guests must register their full and correct vehicle registration details via the console in the restaurant.

"Failure to comply will result in the issue of a £100 parking charge notice, or £60 if paid within 14 days of issue."
