Property to be converted into care home for young people

In December, plans were submitted to turn a detached property on Hawkshead Drive in Royton into an accommodation to provide young people with care.

Now, the plans have been given the green light through a certificate of lawfulness.

According to a document from CFS Care, there will be a maximum of six residents at the property at a time, who would all be aged 16 or over and normally will be aged between 18 and 22.

The accommodation would be designed to support young people who are able to live without any care but still needing some support to move towards independent living.

These individuals could include those on supported housing schemes for people with learning disabilities or mental health problems

A shared support worker will be present at the site and will assist residents with daily living tasks such as washing, laundry, cooking, cleaning and social interaction.

CFS Care stated in the application that assistance would be provided "through prompts and explanations" rather than directly, with the young people also set to be supported with budgeting, time management, management of relationships and emotional support.

A support worker will be present at the site  24 hours a day.

Alterations will be made to the two-storey building, with residents set to share two lounge areas, a kitchen and four separate bathrooms, while each resident will have their own bedroom.

An earlier version of this article stated that a support worker would not be present at the site  24 hours a day, but instead would be at the property "as and when" they were required. That was an error on the part of CFS' application and this article has been corrected to reflect that.

The building used to form two semi-detached homes, however in 2013 the property was converted into one large dwelling.
