No trams will run from Oldham into Manchester city centre on Sunday (February 25) as engineering works on the line continue.

Recent weeks have seen engineering works take place around Victoria tram stop after the discovery of a cracked rail, which was removed last month.

Many tram lines have been affected, with works also taking place on Market Street and near Exchange Square.

Now, more works are set to take place which will leave Oldhamers unable to get into the city centre via tram on Sunday.

The essential works will mean that trams on the Oldham/Rochdale line will stop at Monsall, with a shuttle bus service set to run between Monsall and the city centre.

The works are also set to impact the Bury line, which will terminate at Queens Road. A shuttle bus service will also run between that stop and the city centre.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has said services are expected to return to normal on Monday (February 26).

Danny Vaughan, TfGM’s Head of Metrolink, said: “Safety is our top priority and following the removal of some damaged rail at Victoria, further engineering works are needed on Sunday.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and will have replacement buses running for people coming in on the Bury or Rochdale and Oldham lines and wanting to get into the city.”
